R.D. Saini

Dr. Saini, born on April 13, 1957, in Pilani, was named Ramdhari by his devout parents, aligning with their faith and dedication. They instilled in him values of love, truth, compassion, and brotherhood, which are reflected in his personality and accomplishments. Influenced by prominent figures such as Late Lakshman Singh Shekhawat (renowned social worker), Padma Shri Ramam Gopal Vijaiwargiya (international artist), Padma Shri Komal Kothari (expert in folk culture), and Padma Shri Vijaydan Detha (international storyteller), Dr. Saini grew into a multifaceted individual.

Ramdhari’s early education at Birla Education Trust schools in Pilani laid a strong foundation for his future, where his talents were recognized and nurtured. As a brilliant student, he passed all classes with first division, earning blessings from his teachers and paving the way for a bright future. For higher education, he moved to Jaipur, earning degrees in B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Rajasthan University between 1975-1980, maintaining academic excellence.

Starting his career in 1980 as a college lecturer, Dr. Saini became the principal of Chirawa College (Jhunjhunu) in 1997, following 17 years of teaching. During his tenure, he became actively involved in public life. In 2000, he was appointed as the Director of the Rajasthan Hindi Granth Academy, where he oversaw the creation of over 200 reference books for subjects like science, humanities, commerce, and the arts, ensuring access for Hindi-speaking students and freeing them from dependence on English resources.

Dr. Saini contributed significantly to education policy as a member of India’s Scientific and Technical Terminology Commission for 13 years, playing a key role in implementing medium-change policies in higher education. In 2013, he was appointed as a member and later Chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, where he guided the commission through challenging times, enhancing its reputation. He retired with honor in April 2019 after six years of service.

A celebrated Hindi literary figure, Dr. Saini’s works have been published in numerous magazines since his student days. His publications include ten books, such as poetry collections “Katha Shuru Hoti Hai” and “Gun Raha Hai Gaon” and novels like “Bacche Ki Hatheli Par”, “Priya Olive”, “Kitab” and “Strigandh”. His monograph on Ghanshyam Das Birla is notable. His novel “Priya Olive” received the Meera Award in 2020-2021, the highest honor of the Rajasthan Sahitya Academy. His upcoming novel is “School Band”.

As a distinguished educationist, Dr. Saini has been part of Vice-Chancellor selection committees for various universities, including Rajasthan University (twice), Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya University, Maharaja Ganga Singh University (twice), Kota University, Jayanarayan Vyas University, Kota Technical University, Haridev Joshi Journalism and Communication University, Maharaja Surajmal University, and Matsya University. He also served on staff selection committees for Ambedkar Law University and Govind Guru University.

Dr. Saini conducted extensive studies on Rajasthan’s folk culture under Padma Shri Komal Kothari’s guidance from 1984-2000, leading to his appointment as Director of Mohata Institute of Folklore Research, where he oversaw numerous research projects. In 2009, he initiated the Rajasthan Book Festival in Jaipur, providing a national platform for Indian language writers, promoting book culture, and engaging thousands of readers and students.

Currently, Dr. Saini is working on his novel “Ek Topper Ki Diary”.
